(2 minute 39 second read)

Hey! — I wanted to ask if you wouldn’t mind taking 30 seconds to complete a survey and provide feedback on this newsletter. I want to serve you as best as I can, and that requires taking constructive criticism, which I am eager to take!

Being able to write to to you is not something I take for granted, and I want to do the best I can.

So, if you wouldn’t mind, please consider filling this out :)

What was there before God created the world?

It’s a fair question.

Well, we know God was there, first and foremost…

But, was that it?

According to the Bible, the answer to that is actually “no.”

While God was there, obviously, there is more to that picture!

Scripture tells us that God had company with him—the sons of God.

These weren’t humans, as humanity had not been created yet, but they weren’t simple just “angels” either.

In Job 38:4-7, God Himself tells Job:

"Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth?…when the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy?"

Before the creation of the world, God wasn’t only with the Trinity; He was surrounded by what we could call His divine family—intelligent, spiritual beings created by Him.

These "sons of God" witnessed the very foundations of the earth being laid!

But, God alone was the one who was doing the creating.

Who Are These “Sons of God”?

Now, you might be thinking, "Aren’t these just angels?" Well, not exactly.

In the Bible, “sons of God” (Hebrew: beney elohim) refers to high-ranking divine beings who share a unique relationship with God.

Angels (mal’ak) are messengers—a lower rank in the heavenly hierarchy.

The sons of God are often depicted as more powerful, with larger cosmic roles.

Job 38 even calls them “morning stars.”

In the ancient world, people believed stars were living beings.

So, these sons of God were there, singing and shouting for joy as God shaped the earth.

They were the first witnesses to creation.

Here’s a point of reflection:

The term sons is no accident.

It’s a family word.

Just as we are called God’s children through faith, these divine beings were part of His original family.

Before God created us, He had already built a heavenly family.

And just like any father, He cared for them, claiming them as His sons because He made them.

But what does this mean for us?

For one, it gives us a glimpse of the spiritual world that we’re often unaware of.

God didn’t only create the physical world; He has an unseen, supernatural world, filled with intelligent beings who have roles and responsibilities in His creation.

As Christians, this can help broaden our understanding of how vast God’s family and His creation truly are.

We tend to dumb-down the supernatural world, but there’s some SERIOUS activity going on behind the scenes.

I am about 90% of the way done with a YouTube video that I have spent nearly 40 hours creating on this topic — it’s made in the way of a mini-documentary.

There’s more that meets the eye when it comes to the spiritual world…

I am excited to share it with you!

Until next time...

-Nils
